The Ultimate Off-Road Experience

Get behind the wheel and learn valuable 4WD skills on our purpose-built 4x4 track with tuition from our AdventureMark safety-approved instructor. Use our Toyota Landcruizer (manual) or bring your own to learn how to tackle a range of 4x4 scenarios. Find yourself fording through rivers, tackling steep descents, bouncing through our famous ‘axle twister’, climbing the ‘staircase’ and manoeuvring uneven terrain to boost your confidence with your vehicle and driving. No prior 4WD experience is required, and tuition will be tailored to your experience level. Advanced drivers will be tested!

  • Duration- up to two hours of tuition. It may be longer for larger groups.

  • Anyone with a full driver’s license and who is confident on-road but would like to increase confidence off-road. It is beneficial for those who want to upskill and learn more about their vehicles. No prior four-wheel driving experience is required but all skill levels will be challenged.

  • The self-drive utilises our world-class 4x4 proving ground and training track. It was professionally designed alongside Toyota New Zealand to be a top-class facility.

    Examples of challenges you can take advantage of are steep descents/ ascents, slippery slopes & hills, uneven terrain, river-crossings, 'double humps', our famous 'axle twister', and the 'staircase'.

    If you are feeling nervous that is okay your instructor will guide you every step of the way and will work at your pace with plenty of encouragement along the way!

  • We are audited through AdventureMark and provide qualified instructors.

    Safety notes regarding our Self-Drive

    • We supply manual vehicles only

    • There is zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol

    • Participants must have a full driver’s licence

    • Participants must be able to follow instruction

    • Participants are required to wear flat, covered footwear; it pays to bring wet weather gear

    Hazards and Risks by undertaking a 4×4 self-drive are but are not limited to: rolling, collision, hitting obstacles such as rocks and trees, equipment failure, damage to vehicles, being hit by a vehicle, mental and physical injury, illness, broken bones, sprains, cuts, tears, wounds, dislocation, head injury, bruising, burns, damage to property and equipment, and death.
